The third “Holiday at the Hall” festival will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, in Old Town Lewisville, featuring a wide range of free family events from 7 a.m. through 8 p.m.

More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the celebration, which was named the best special event in the country in 2003 among cities with similar population by the City-County Communications and Marketing Association.

This year’s festival will include local favorites such as the Lewisville Lights! Downtown lighting ceremony, the Old Town Holiday Stroll, a parade down Main and Mill streets, live entertainment on four stages, visits with Santa Claus, and the annual Motorcycle Toy Run.

New to this year’s event will be Polar Ice Excursion, a competition and display by eight ice-carving artisans, and the Artist Alcove, featuring demonstrations by local and regional artists and crafters.

“Any family looking for a way to kick off the holiday season and really get into the festive spirit should attend this festival in Old Town,” said Mayor Gene Carey.

Saturday’s slate of activities will begin with the popular Breakfast With Santa, coordinated by the city’s parks department and conducted by the Lewisville Kiwanis Club, from 7 to 10:45 a.m. inside the former Temple Baptist Church across the street from City Hall. Santa will join the crowd at 8 a.m. and visit with children during the breakfast.

At noon, more than 1,000 motorcycles will leave the same site to begin the annual Motorcycle Toy Run, following a route through Lewisville and Flower Mound before returning to the former church building. Participants donate new toys as their entry fee. The toys will be collected and distributed to four area organizations: Christian Community Action, Friends of the Family, Child Protective Services of Denton County, and Denton County Child Advocacy Center.

Live entertainment will begin along Main Street at 10 a.m., with two stages presenting local and regional acts while strolling performers add to the festive scene. Arts and craft booths and food vendors will be available along Main Street. Free carriage rides will be offered. Performances on the main stage will include Lewisville Lake Symphony, LakeCities Ballet Theatre, and Mighty Marvelous 4. The community stage features performances by area school groups, dance academies and musical acts.

At noon, the Greater Lewisville Arts Council opens its Arts Council Showcase inside the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, on the south side of Main Street. The five GLAC affiliate groups will present a series of free performances and demonstrations between noon and 3 p.m.

Also at noon, the Polar Ice Excursion begins on Charles Street. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite entrant in the collection of ice-sculpting displays while enjoying a sight rarely found in the Sun Belt – towering works of carved ice lining the street.

At 3 p.m., the holiday parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Cowen Street. It will proceed east on Main Street to Mill Street, then turning south and ending at DeLay Middle School. Prime viewing areas will be set up along Main Street in the downtown corridor.

After the parade, Santa Claus will meet with children in the Poydras Street pedestrian plaza on the south side of Main Street. Free photo buttons will be available for children to commemorate their visit.

At 5:30 p.m., Mayor Gene Carey and Santa Claus will join forces for the “Lewisville Lights!” ceremony, flipping the switch to turn on the city’s holiday tree and thousands of lights along Main and Church streets and on Lewisville City Hall.

The Old Town Stroll will highlight Main Street businesses from 4 to 8 p.m., with refreshments provided by participating local merchants. The Old Town Business Association will distribute Santa Shuffle cards offering discounts and prize drawings to festival attendees who visit downtown businesses.
