Holiday at the Hall Festival set for December 2, 2006
Holiday at the Hall
Vendor and parade applications are being accepted for the fourth annual “Holiday
at the Hall” festival scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2 in Old Town Lewisville.
Since its inception in 2003, this award-winning festival has grown into a
fascinating winter wonderland of holiday ambiance and spirit of the season. The
2006 festival will enlarge its special attraction called the Polar Ice Excursion
consisting of 12-foot-tall ice sculptures, amazingly carved live throughout the
festival by some of the nation's top ice sculpture artists from around the US.
The 2006 parade will follow the same route as last year, leaving the
intersection of Cowan and Main streets at 3 p.m. to head east on Main and then
south on Mill before ending at Delay Middle School. Participants will assemble
that morning on Cowan Street between Main and Purnell, with a festive atmosphere
of music and fun.
Past parade entries have included the 23' and 19' tall aerial floats similar to
those seen in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and of course, local favorites
such as Lewisville High School band and drill team, local dance and martial arts
academies, businesses, civic organizations, school groups, Scouts, equestrians,
decorated vehicles, parade floats and more.
Trophies will be awarded in two categories -- Best Corporate/Business Entry and
Best Community/Group Entry.
Anyone interested in submitting an entry in the parade can complete and submit a
form available on the city Web site,
www.cityoflewisville.com. There is no entry fee, but participants are
required to carry a minimum level of insurance coverage. Entry deadline is Nov.

This year’s “Holiday at the Hall” festival also will include Breakfast with
Santa, the Motorcycle Toy Run, live music on four festival stages, strolling
entertainment, the official lighting of Main Street, visits with Santa Claus in
Santa's Village and shopping in the Artist's Alcove with hand-crafted artisan
items and specialized gifts.
Breakfast with Santa will be from 7 to 11 a.m. inside the Old Town Activity
Center (former Temple Baptist Church), 201 W. Main Street. The Kiwanis Club will
cook pancakes and sausage, and Santa Claus will be on hand to visit with
children and pose for photos. Children also will be able to sing carols and
complete holiday art projects.
The eighth annual Motorcycle Toy Run will bring hundreds of bikers downtown to
spread the holiday spirit by collecting toys for local charities. Participants
will gather at City Hall starting at 9 a.m., and then will depart at noon for a
ride through the Lewisville area before returning to the Old Town Activity
Center for lunch and other festivities. For information, please call (972)
219-3560.
The revitalization of Old Town Lewisville adds to the festival through the
Holiday Stroll, where local businesses share their wassail and cookies with
visitors, and the Old Town Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Old Town Preservation
Society and visiting a series of historic structures.
Old Town Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at dusk on Main Street as Mayor
Gene Carey and Santa Claus join forces to flip the switch that puts the sparkle
in Old Town, lighting two Christmas trees along with City Hall and Main Street.
Corporate sponsorships are available for this popular (and free) family event.
