Blazing competition, five-alarm fun
Texas Firefighter Olympics returns to Lewisville in July 2005
More
than 1,000 firefighters and their families will visit Lewisville
this
summer for the 23rd annual Texas Firefighters Olympics. The event
also was held in Lewisville in 2000.
Activities such as basketball, softball,
weightlifting and archery will be
held July 17-22, 2005 at sites around Lewisville and surrounding areas.
Participants will compete in 15 events against a statewide field
during the
six-day event. “We’re looking forward to the chance to welcome
firefighters from around the state for some friendly but fierce
competition,” said Fire Chief Rick Lasky.
In addition to helping stage the olympics,
Lewisville firefighters will
compete in most events. Last year in San Antonio, Lewisville
entrants
captured five individual or team medals, including two golds.
Volunteers are needed to help make the Texas
Firefighter Olympics a
success. More than 150 volunteers were involved with the 2000
games, and a similar number will be needed this year. Anyone
interested in volunteering at the event, whether it be for the
entire week or just part of one day, should
