PRESS RELEASE
City to mark National Night Out with free concerts

The Lewisville community will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007 with an evening of music, games and family fun at Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950 S. Valley Parkway.

The free event, presented by PediPlace and the City of Lewisville, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Musical performances will feature the sounds of renowned Southern Soul Blues recording artist L.J. Echols and Dallas’ own jazz phenomenon Natural Bridge in an extension of the city’s annual Family Concert in the Park.

“This event is open to all surrounding communities to raise awareness of community services available to all our neighbors,” said Lewisville Mayor Gene Carey. “We recently celebrated ‘Unity in the Community’ with our neighbors in Highland Village and Flower Mound, and this is a continuing effort to keep that Unity.”

National Night Out is a nationwide program to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts. While the traditional “lights on” and front porch vigils remain a part of National Night Out, larger community activities have become increasingly popular.

In Lewisville, the police and fire departments will be on hand with safety information and demonstrations. There also will be a range of children’s games and activities as well as food vendors and more.

The goal of National Night Out is to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie. National Night Out represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make many neighborhoods safer places throughout the year. It is an opportunity to celebrate safety and crime prevention successes and to expand and strengthen programs year-round.

Sponsors of this year’s Lewisville event include United Community Bank, Alert Response, Woody’s Landscape, Sam Pack’s Ford Country of Lewisville and Green Mountain Energy.
